Magma
Which band can claim to have invented its own musical genre? MAGMA! Since the early 1970s, the French group led by Christian Vander has been telling mystical stories about the planet Kobaïa in their musical style, which they have baptised Zheul. Musically, Zheul is reminiscent of well-known Orff works. The instrumentation, which often consists of four singers, often blurs the boundary between classical music and timeless jazz rock. In addition to the astonishing technical skills of the musicians, the artistic language of Kobayan, in which MAGMA have recorded almost all of their albums, has also contributed to their cult status. The masterpiece ‘Mekanïk Destruktïw Kommandöh’, released in 1973, contains all the typical MAGMA elements to such a high degree that even today - more than 35 years after its first release - it can simply be regarded as unique in the history of modern music. During this extremely creative phase, further compositions were created, which Christian Vander is currently putting the finishing touches to. The specialised press is still amazed and the numerous audiences even travel from different countries to admire the impressive live performances of the MAGMA ensemble.
