From 1975, he studied German and philosophy in Münster and Osnabrück, graduating with the first and second state examinations for teaching at grammar schools. He is a well-known German writer, rock singer, songwriter and musical lyricist/translator. In the 2007/2008 winter semester, he was a guest lecturer at the Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences on the popular music course in the field of lyrics. At the end of 1980, Kunze began his artistic career with a successful contribution to the German Pop-Nachwuchs-Festival in Würzburg. The next album ‘Wunderkinder’ also went gold in 1986. This is followed by several tours of Germany, the longest in 1987 with 70 concerts. Kunze has released 36 studio albums to date and has sold a total of over 4 million records.
