Developed in 1926 by the company Hirschmann GmbH, the are considered to be the forerunners of today's today's banana plugs, which take their name from the banana-shaped leaf spring tip. The 4 mm version is still used today for almost all HiFi loudspeaker connections in the upper quality classes.The banana plug is gold-plated and has an expanding clasp.
