Professional musicians as field testers are taken very seriously at SOMMER CABLE because we depend on their honest opinion. Famous musicians are at an advantage because they typically hang out with an entire team of highly talented technicians who have very fast access to innovations and can voice suggestions for improvement as well as critique. This all benefi ts the quality of our products and we are very happy to have met these great people at gigs, through friends, and even in person. You will find that these people – if you should have the opportunity to get to know them personally – are very likable and down-to-earth, and that we are a great match. At SOMMER CABLE we would like to say thanks to all these great musicians, photographers, bands, and managers for their uncomplicated cooperation. As a special service you can download the current tour dates or read up on the latest news about them on our website at any time.

On this page you will find a small excerpt of friends and users who are always willing to help us out with their expertise.

Roger Hodgson

Roger Hodgson

Roger Hodgson became known as one of the most gifted composers, songwriters and lyricists of our time. As the legendary voice of Supertramp and author of the band’s greatest hits he wrote songs like ”Give a Little Bit“, ”The Logical Song“, ”Dreamer“, ”Take the Long Way Home“, ”Breakfast In America“, ”It’s Raining Again“, ”School“, ”Fool’s Overture“ and many more.

During this period Supertramp sold far more than 60 million albums and became a worldwide phenomenon in rock music. Every fi fteenth Canadian owned the two albums “Crime Of The Century” and the high-fl ying “Breakfast In America”, on which the majority of hits were written and sung by Roger and which became one of the most successful albums of all times.

After a longer break Hodgson has been touring again since 2002 – either as a duo, accompanied by a saxophone player, with a full band or even with an orchestra. The legend is back and, no doubt about that, his unmistakeable voice sounds better than ever before.

Hellmut Hattler & Band

Hellmut Hattler & Band

Hellmut is a very important man for us. He is not only a very talented bass player (many say he is the best bass player in Germany), but also a very likable fellow. He and his band HATTLER stand for sophisticated club music. He has very high demands when it comes to sound quality at live performances or the high fi delity sound character on sound media. Hellmut is a founding member of the German cult band KRAAN, which was a sensation especially in the seventies. Hellmut continues to prove his fl exibility and musical versatility with band projects like TABTWO or DEEP DIVE CORP.

Richard Z. Kruspe

Richard Z. Kruspe

As a member of the band RAMMSTEIN, Richard Z. Kruspe surely is one of the most famous guitarists and song writers in Germany. In studios in New York and Berlin he tested our guitar, multicore and microphone cables. So, we hope that they will hold up to even the toughest demands! SOMMER CABLEs were also used to produce the latest RAMMSTEIN because the band seems to unite the members of “who is who“ in the British jazz, blues, and rock scene. This was the reason a murmur went through the music scene when COLOSSEUM announced in 1994 that they would give ONE (!) concert at the Tent Music Festival in Freiburg. The success was overwhelming and resulted in some large concert tours throughout Europe. album, and our partner KID BROADCAST manufactures a MIDI distribution system for RAMMSTEIN. To deter long fi ngers on stage, an attractive logo was specially engraved on the front panel. But seriously: Who would dare to rob this band? They have fl ame throwers!!

Colosseum

Colosseum

This incredibly good live band from England is listed in the rock encyclopedia as “the best band of all times“, and the live album recorded in March of 1971 as the “most ingenious album in rock history“. Different rock encyclopedias consider COLOSSEUM to be the dinosaurs of jazz rock, and that not only because the band seems to unite the members of “who is who“ in the British jazz, blues, and rock scene. This was the reason a murmur went through the music scene when COLOSSEUM announced in 1994 that they would give ONE (!) concert at the Tent Music Festival in Freiburg. The success was overwhelming and resulted in some large concert tours throughout Europe.

Magma

Magma

Which band can say that they have created their own musical genre? MAGMA! With their very own musical direction named Zheul, the French band around Christian Vander has been telling mystical stories about the planet Kobaïa since the early 1970‘s.  Musically, Zheul reminds of well-known Orff- creations. The cast, often consisting of 4 male and female singers, dissolves the limits between classical music and timeless jazz-rock. Aside of the musicians‘ astonishing technical capabilities, the abstract language “Kobaïan“, used to record almost all of the MAGMA albums, has contributed to the bands cult status. The work of art  “Mekanïk Destruktïw Kommandöh“, created in 1973, contains all of the elements typical for MAGMA at such a high concentration that even today – more than 35 years after it was first released – it stands alone in modern music history. Further compositions were created during this extremely creative phase, which Christian Vander is currently fine-tuning. Music journalists continue being impressed and a large foreign audience comes a long way to experience MAGMA‘s impressive live performances.

Rainer von Vielen

Rainer von Vielen

Whereas in the early days of his career the computer used to be the constituent factor in his compositions for singer and band name giver Rainer von Vielen, this one was gradually replaced both at the live shows and in the studio. Rainer von Vielen draw on all musical styles - the band itself calls their distinct result bastard pop. The divide between two songs can be as deep as the gap between a hardcore band and a singer- songwriter. Hereby the joining element remains the linking of traditional instruments such as accordeon and harmonica with contemporary instruments. Another unique characteristic is singer Rainer’s laryngeal singing which also helps to transport words.

Finally it’s also the contentful lyrics which stand out of the mass of sleek-polished elevator pop music of commercial radio stations: Rainer von Vielen take a clear stance against racism, indifference & violence - the band supports the ATTAC & SEA SHEPHERD NGOs, the large-scale rallies against the CASTOR transports of the Citizens’ Initiative Lüchow-Dannenberg or the protest campaigns against the G-8 summits. The RvV song “Tanz Deine Revolution“ [Dance Your Revolution] became one ot the hymns of the protest movement 2007 in Heiligendamm. The band members are: RAINER VON VIELEN (vocals, accordeon, programming), MITSCH OKO (guitar), DAN LE TARD (bass) & NIKO LAI (drums & percussions).

The Hamburg Blues Band

The Hamburg Blues Band

St. Pauli Blues: the sound of the 60s has now boomed for years, and just about as long fi ve guys have been touring through overcrowded clubs who, beyond any doubt, belong to the creme of Europe’s blues scene. THE HAMBURG BLUES BAND stands for an intense, cleverly arranged and, played live, a mind-blowing roots blues which gets purists staggering mentally time and again. For the company around singer Gert Lange, who is often compared to Joe Cocker, mixes bare-knuckle guitar bluesrock with soul, classic rhythm’n blues, boogie and even occasional ventures into jazz sceneries with as much joy of playing as they are aware of tradition.

The lineup of the HBB reads like a “Who is Who“ of the European music scene: guitarist, singer, songwriter and Woodstock veteran Miller Anderson, who had already been playing since the 60s with all top bands of the international music scene (Ian Hunter, Keef Hartley Band, Savoy Brown, Stan Webb’s Chicken Shack, Mountain, T-Rex, Donovan, the Spencer Davis Group, Mick Taylor, Roger Chapman and Jon Lord, Deep Purple); drummer Hans Wallbaum, who for years had been sitting behind the kit for Ruhrpott rocker Stoppok, was formerly booked for the drums by Chuck Berry, Interzone and Marius Müller-Westernhagen; shouter Gert Lange used to work with the Rainer Baumann Band, Stoppok, Inga Rumpf, Jack Bruce and Zoot Money; and Michael Becker (Spooky Tooth, Lake, Die Antwort) on bass.

Fettes Brot

Fettes Brot

Germany‘s third to fi fth most popular band belongs to the two survivors of the first big German-language rap wave in the early 1990‘s. Their catalogue now boasts 10 albums (including Best ofs, live albums and compilations) plus, believe it or not, 28 singles and videos, issued since 1994. The band‘s works include unforgettable pop classics such as “Nordisch by Nature” (Nordic by Nature), “Jein” (Yes and No), “Schwule Mädchen” (Gay Girls), “The Grosser” (The Big One), “An Tagen wie diesen” (On Days Like These) or “Bettina, zieh dir bitte etwas an” (Bettina, put something on please) – not to forget “Emanuela” (Gold in Germany and Austria, biggest selling song online 2005, Comet for the “Best Song 2005”)! Fettes Brot have come a long way from their musical origins as a hip hop crew, breaking all genre boundaries in a unique way. In live performances the three replaced the record player with eight fellow musicians several years ago – Fettes Brotin football team size produced two long-awaited live albums in 2010.

Café del Mundo

Café del Mundo

Two guitars dancing on a pearl. In their seemingly light-footed play, they combine the highest sensitivity with archaic elemental forces, a terrific passion with tender grace, traditional with modern elements, heartwarming melancholy with an exuberant zest for life.

Jan Pascal and Alexander Kilian are two award-winning Flamenco nuevo guitarists from the South of Germany who have wholly dedicated themselves to the music of southern Spain.

The compositions for their group Café del mundo are based on centuries-old Flamenco dances like Solea, Buleria, Tientos and Latin-American rhythms as Salsa, Rumba and Samba. Radically new, however, is that they set aside the traditional triad of Baile, Cante, Toque – dancing, singing and playing. Instead, they play their guitars in an unrestrained dialogue at the centre of the dramaturgy. Brilliantly and rousing, the two virtuosos make the music of the Flamenco guitar accessible to a wider public. Jan Pascal and Alexander Kilian have met at a Flamenco guitar workshop in 2007. Since then, they have been united by their inspired work of composing and meanwhile regularly giving concerts with their group Café del mundo throughout Germany and in neighbouring European countries.

Gundy Keller

Gundy Keller

Gundy Keller is an absolutely exceptional guitarist, song writer and sound designer. He is considered a specialist for guitar synthesizers, and that is why another large manufacturer of music electronics also relies on his services as a fi eld tester. To ensure that more than a “fl exible software“ is attached to the hardware, he puts our super soft and fl exible guitar cables to the test by taking them on tour around the world. Gundy runs his recording studio “A-TOWN recordings“ in Aschaffenburg and is currently working on a single. We are curious!

Andy Ypsilon

Andy Ypsilon

He is a wonderful song writer. His music tells life stories and the authentic text will simply enchant the listener. He has created an album that is unequalled, such as one would expect from an artist who has been in the music business for decades. That‘s what “Stuck on you“ is all about. It‘s pure power, simply electrifying. The sound will hypnotise the listener up to the point of addiction – he will want more.

Spirit and Jazz

Spirit and Jazz

The band SPIRIT’N’JAZZ is made up of musicians from Germany, England and Turkey, who realise social, ethnic and spiritual themes. At SOMMER CABLE we especially like their music, because it is sophisticated, yet also easily palatable for listeners who are not avid jazz fans. Their music lives on improvisation and emotional expression. Gunter Hauser produces the music so excellently that the recordings are perfectly suitable as a reference for high end HiFi-systems. Their album “Can you see...?“ is currently being played by a number of radio stations in Australia, USA, Canada and Europa. The band receives a lot of good reviews and is already being compared to some of the big names in the music business. If you want to experience the world of SPIRIT’N’JAZZ, you can get to know them on the following website:
